"For us, the highlight of the season will of course be the German SailGP summit in Sassnitz on Rügen!" Erik Heil, the helmsman of Thomas Riedel's Germany SailGP team and four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, had already stated this before the first starting signal for the fifth SailGP season. For the German team, this season marks only the second in the still young history of the ambitious sailing racing team.
On 16 and 17 August - just one week after the start of the Ocean Race Europe in Kiel - the speedy F50 catamarans will set sail off Rügen. The world's sailing elite will meet in Sassnitz for a showdown on the third weekend in August. The guest appearance on the Baltic Sea marks the ninth of up to 14 SailGP regattas in season five, which ends on 29 and 30 November in Abu Dhabi with the grand two-million-US-dollar finale.
Tickets can now be purchased for the German Sail Grand Prix in Sassnitz. The organisers of the international sailing race series SailGP have today launched online sales for selected events in the USA and Europe. This also includes the German event. Click here to go directly to ticket sales.
For the time being, racing fans can purchase two types of tickets: In addition to grandstand seats on the water at a price of 75.00 euros per person (including food and drinks), tickets for the "BYOB" programme (with your own boat) are available at a price of 475.00 euros. Boat owners have the opportunity to experience the competitions on their own keel within the exclusion zone and can enjoy a great view of the action.
SailGP tickets are the perfect Christmas present for all sailing and water sports fans." Russell Coutts
"After a fantastic season opener in Dubai, we are delighted to invite fans across America and Europe to purchase tickets for upcoming events to experience first-hand the most exciting racing on the water as the Rolex SailGP Championship travels to some of the most iconic destinations on our 2025 season calendar," said SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts.
SailGP inventor and five-time America's Cup winner Russell Coutts is convinced: "Spectators can experience a new era of the best high-speed, high-tech racing on the water - with action that takes place close to the shore."
The mayor of Sassnitz, Leon Kräusche, is hoping for a lot of fan interest, saying: "As mayor of the town of Sassnitz, I am delighted to be hosting this dynamic sporting event and to welcome many international guests to the harbour town on the island of Rügen." The first sales phase has also begun for the other events of the Rolex SailGP Championship 2024/25.
The fifth season of the Rolex SailGP had already begun on 23 and 24 November in Dubai. Until the championship final in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, the races will be held at venues around the world, including Sydney, Rio and New York. Twelve national teams will compete against each other in identical 50-foot foiling catamarans at high speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
In addition to the season title, the teams will be competing for prize money totalling 12.8 million US dollars - spread over the entire season. The Germany SailGP Team made a promising start to its second SailGP season, shining with a victory in the second of six light wind races in Dubai.
Two-time Olympic 49er bronze medallist Erik Heil from Strande near Kiel leads the team. He is supported by German crew members Anna Barth, Jonathan Knottnerus-Meyer and Felix van den Hövel as well as top international players such as 49er Olympic champion Stuart Bithell from Great Britain.
