"It's great that we can finally race at home in front of our fans," said SailGP Team Germany helmsman Erik Heil with a view to the now confirmed home event in the coming season. "This will help us to get more attention for our sport and the league here too and to set our themes." With at least 14 events on five continents, the new season will be the most extensive in the league's history.
"The new SailGP calendar shows the growth of the racing league. Eleven national teams are expected to compete in the new season," says SailGP Managing Director Andrew Thompson. Following the announcement at the penultimate event of the current season in New York, one new team has already been confirmed for the coming season: Brazil. In addition to Germany and Switzerland, an event will be held there for the first time. Thompson explains that this will allow the team to present itself in new markets while not disappointing existing fan communities and retaining the most popular venues.
This has always included the grand season finale, which decides the overall winner and the associated prize money of two million US dollars. Until now, this has always been held in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. However, next weekend will be the last time this will be the case, at least for the time being. The final will take place in Dubai in 2024/25, where the new season will also start in November 2024.
For the second and third events of the season, the racing circus will be travelling to New Zealand and Australia. Los Angeles and San Francisco are then on the programme as regular season events, before heading to South America for the first time for the Brazilian event. The American tour will conclude with the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix.
The European races of the coming season will first take the teams to Great Britain and then to Germany on the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2025. Where exactly the first home race for Erik Heil and the Germany SailGP Team will take place has not yet been announced.
They will then head to Italy, followed by the first Swiss race on Lake Geneva. A little later, the foiling experts will meet against an equally picturesque backdrop in Cádiz/Andalusia at the Spain Sail Grand Prix. The season will be rounded off with another event in the Middle East before the final event, which is scheduled for 7 and 8 November 2025.
Tickets are not yet available. However, fans can already register on the SailGP website and register for tickets. Tickets for the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix will go on sale first. Further details on fan experiences and ticket sales will be available as they become available.
