The two big sailing summer hits in Germany are getting closer. Those who plan early have a better chance of getting front row seats. This applies to the start of the Ocean Race Europe on 10 August in Kiel with Boris Herrmann's team Malizia as well as to the SailGP Germany premiere on 16 and 17 August in Sassnitz with the Germany SailGP team.

There are 100 days to go from today until Sunday's final at the SailGP Germany premiere in Sassnitz. The fastest league in sailing will make its eagerly awaited debut in the German Baltic Sea region on 16 and 17 August off the coast of Rügen. Here, the impressive XL grandstand alone will offer 5000 people front row seats to the sailing spectacle against the backdrop of the chalk coast. Tickets are already sold out in some categories, but there are still Tickets for both days (from 76 euros for adults, from 38 euros for children), which can be purchased here.

Stadium fun at the SailGP in Sassnitz

Those with admission to the SailGP racing stadium can enjoy the races of the F50 fleet with twelve national teams and some of the most successful and well-known protagonists of the sailing world up close. The stadium will feature music acts, the SailGP simulator, fan merchandise and much more. The racing action will also be shown on video screens with live commentary.

As an alternative to stadium and grandstand seats, there is also a "BYOB" offer: tickets for live entertainment in close proximity to the racing action on the water are available from 500 euros and depend on the size of the boat. However, if you're still looking for a berth for the Sassnitz weekend dedicated to sailing, you'll have to hurry.

The reservation confirmations for the many "early birds" will be sent out in the coming weeks and the harbour in Sassnitz is largely fully booked. If you are quick now, you could be lucky enough to be a latecomer in the event of cancellations. Alternatively, you could head north to the idyllic little marina in Lohme opposite Cape Arkona, which is likely to fill up quickly with 50 guest berths. Alternatively, harbours such as Gustrow, Lauterbach, Sellin or Binz offer further mooring options.

SailGP and Sail Sassnitz offer sailing galore

The high demand is not only due to the already buzzing holiday peak season and the German SailGP summit on Rügen. The Sail Sassnitz will also take place alongside the Formula 1 of sailing from 15 to 17 August. Traditional sailing boats will be moored in the popular holiday resort for the maritime festival.

As with moorings, the same applies to accommodation: If you still have to find one, it's not an easy task. It's a similar game in Kiel: the Ocean Race Europe starts in Kiel on 10 August, one weekend before the German SailGP summit. The accommodation on offer for the five-day sailing festival is already limited on the fjord.

The hosts are expecting a full house at Ocean Live Park on the Kiellinie and on the fjord from 6 to 10 August. 23 years after the victory of the "Illbruck" in the Volvo Ocean Race 2002 and two years after the Ocean Race Fly-By with Boris Herrmann's team Malizia and around 120,000 spectators, Kiel will be in the Ocean Race spotlight for the third time in midsummer.

Ocean Race Europe: 250,000 visitors expected at the start

This time, Schleswig-Holstein's Sailing City is hosting the start of the second edition of the European race. A quarter of a million visitors are expected on the fjord. The event site stretches between the Blücherbrücke bridge and the Fördeblick Park with its viewing platform. The lively Ocean Race Park with its exciting and creative maritime offerings has a lot to offer young and old sea and lake lovers with free admission. The sailing stars will be interviewed on the event stage.

The major event is celebrated on the Kiellinie and on the water for almost a week. You can just imagine: Accommodation and moorings along the fjord are already heavily booked for this period. While the Imoca fleet will be moored at Blücherbrücke, where the Volvo Ocean Race fleet once moored and the "illbruck" crew celebrated, visitors on their own keel should plan well where they want to - and can - moor their boat.

A good contact for the search is the Kiel Sports Harbour GmbHbut no reservations are accepted for their west bank harbours. Guests should look out for green signs at the berths. For the Olympic harbour in Schilksee, for example, the harbour masters currently see a good chance of a guest berth during the summer sailing season, as many regular sailors are also on holiday with their boats during the August holiday period.

Guest berths and escort trips to the start

It can be assumed that berths in the nearest marinas such as Wik, Düsternbrook, Blücherbrücke, Reventlou or Seeburg will be difficult or impossible to obtain. Exceptions prove the rule. Guest berths are available in Wellingdorf and Dietrichsdorf, from where there are ferry connections directly to the Reventlou Bridge.

The eastern shore also has more harbours and good mooring options to offer compared to the western shore harbours. Once parked there, for example, guests can reach the Ocean Live Park on the west bank quickly and easily by ferry from Laboe. If you don't want to experience the start on your own boat, but still want to experience it on the water, you will find more and more offers from the organisers and other Kiel providers for adventure cruises and accompanying trips to the start of the Ocean Race Europe in the coming weeks and months. A first example here.

The starting signal for the challengers in the Ocean Race Europe will be given on 10 August at 15:45. There will be detailed instructions from the organisers and the race committee for the behaviour of fans with boats on the water, which will be published in good time.

A year ago, four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel presented Sassnitz on the island of Rügen as the first German venue for a SailGP regatta. And promised that he would be there. The starting signal will be given in 99 days:

The Ocean Race Europe kicks off in Kiel on 10 August. The European race visits a total of seven harbour cities, taking its challengers from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic:
