This year, the travelling prize of the Pantaenius Rund Skagen Regatta goes to Mathias Müller von Blumencron's Class 40 "Red". The cast-iron trophy in the shape of a Viking ship is awarded to the fastest yacht by calculated time in the ORC Club classification, the most common measurement in Germany. Although the Elliott 52 "Outsider" leads the overall standings, as an ORCi yacht it had no chance of winning the prize.
Right from the start, the two boats pulled away from the rest of the field and were able to extend their lead further and further. They benefited in particular from the calm that set in on Thursday. While the other regatta participants parked for hours, the "Outsider" had already reached Strande on Wednesday. The "Red" made it to the finish early on Thursday morning with the last of the wind.
This year, the Pantaenius Rund Skagen Regatta once again lived up to its demanding image. While the participants still had to contend with strong winds, high waves and icy temperatures in the North Sea, tactics were the decisive factor in the calm Baltic Sea. Skipper Ralf Giercke's "Padedö Likedehler" was the last boat to cross the finish line on Saturday morning.
Of the 58 registered boats, 42 started the race, 37 of which were able to finish. In addition to the "Spindrift" and the "Oromocto", which had to give up shortly after the start due to problems on board, the boats "Ole Marie" and "Rode Zora v. Amsterdam", which were far behind, finally decided to start the engine due to time constraints.
Protests have been lodged against Thomas Reinecke's "Edelweiß", which sailed into the port of refuge in Sæby due to a suspected water ingress and then decided to abandon the race, and against the "Wappen von Bremen III".
