Not all of the Caribbean is the same. Sometimes the distances are short and the waters are fully developed for tourism, with sailing tending to be little more than a brief hop from bay to bay; at other times, you have to battle your way through the trade winds and ocean swells to reach more distant islands. Sometimes there’s good infrastructure, buoy fields and a dense network of bars and restaurants; at other times, the scene is dominated by more traditional island markets, ramshackle wooden shacks and red tape. Some sailing areas are overcrowded, whilst others have security issues here and there.
We explain where different types of sailors will find happiness, what they absolutely must bear in mind, and what costs they should expect. That way, your Caribbean sailing trip will be a real winter dream.
