The route for the 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race
The complete route for the twelfth Volvo Ocean Race, which starts in autumn 2014, has been announced for the first time. Penultimate stop: Lorient

The new route from Alicante in Spain around the globe to Gothenburg in Sweden is almost 40,000 nautical miles long. The French harbour town of Lorient was the last of a total of eight open stops on the route.

The world regatta starts on 4 October 2014 with a short race in the port of Alicante and ends on 27 June of the following year in Gothenburg. The course is expected to be 39,895 nautical miles long.
