Team Alvimedica, an American-Turkish co-operation. This is the skipper's first race, so a top position is likely to be difficult

The team came about through a Hollywood film shoot. In 2006, the current skipper Charlie Enright and team manager Mark Towill met at the castings for the sailing film "Morning Light". The documentary follows a team of young Americans as they cross the Pacific. Consultants on set were the American sailing professionals Stan Honey, Mike Sanderson and Jerry Kirby. It was then that the idea of taking part in the Volvo Ocean Race was born. With the involvement of the Turkish company Alvimedica, a manufacturer of medical products, the Hollywood dream became a reality.

The team
The skipper and manager are quite inexperienced, all other positions are filled by sailors who have at least one race in their wake. But although the Australian Will Oxley is a renowned navigator on board - he has completed three Volvo Ocean Races - the battle for victory is likely to be difficult.

The skipper
For Charlie Enright, 30, it is his first time in the Volvo Ocean Race. He already has some ocean experience, for example from the Transpacific or the Fastnet Race. Compared to the sailing CVs of his rivals, however, the US American is more of a beginner in this profession.
