Another design for the planned Inshore Races. The German Martin Fischer was involved in the design

This week we are already presenting two design studies (see below) with which designers can in the competition for a new foiler for the future In-Port Races of the Volvo Ocean Race involved. Now another project has been published, again for the first time on catsailingnews.com.

The trimaran looks like something from another planet. And that was also one of the aims of the American-Italian design duo Doug Schickler and Davide Tagliapietra both former members of the design team of the Italian America's Cup challenger +39 Challenge, among others. "We asked ourselves: Will the design of multihull foiling develop in parallel to that of aeroplanes? What can we learn from motorised hydrofoil boats?" says Schickler. The design team also included Martin Fischer, one of the best foil specialists in the world and most recently the designer responsible for the French America's Cup challenger Groupama Team France.

The result is a futuristic tri that not only meets the requirements of the race organisers, especially in terms of dismantling and easy transport by container, but could also revolutionise sailing on foils for purely visual reasons.

You can see all the details in the photo gallery.

The trimaran is expected to cost around 730,000 euros per team

Whether the boat will ever be built is uncertain due to the unclear future of the Volvo Ocean Race, as with all other projects.
