Experienced crew, lots of tuning: good for a surprise
German sponsor, eye-catching look. Plus points: Skipper Ken Read (l.) almost always sailed with the same crew from one victory to the next in the 2008 Big Boat Circus. Australian Andrew Cape (right) is an excellent navigator, was on "Movistar" in the previous race and on "Ericsson" after its demise. He recently took second place in the Barcelona World Race with Alex Thomson on "Hugo Boss". The only boat was designed by Botin/Carkeek, who are new to the Open scene but have experience in the Americas Cup (New Zealand) and the TP52s. The team had plenty of time for testing.
