For YACHT online, "Holcim PRB" skipper Rosalin Kuiper commented on the Ocean Race Europe in an exclusive blog and provided powerful insights. The Dutchwoman had previously become known in this country as Boris Herrmann's spirited co-skipper in Team Malizia. NDR has now dedicated a portrait to the professional sailor and young mother in the Sportclub Story series.

In the Ocean Race Europe, Rosalin Kuiper skippered a team in a major offshore race for the first time. Right at the start, she had a shock to digest after the starting crash with the Italian team Allagrande Mapei Racing and had to overcome enormous challenges. Rosalin Kuiper and her team had their baptism of fire -also with the help of the Knierim shipyard in Kiel - strongly mastered.

Ocean Race Europe: Third place at the skipper's premiere

After the comeback to stage two of the round Europe race, Team Holcim-PRB fought to catch up with the leading group again. Flying the Swiss flag, the multinational team, which also included ex-Malician Nico Lunven, finished the second edition of the Ocean Race Europe in third place on the podium. Rosalin Kuiper and her team fought to the last finish line. Courageous, passionate and successful: Rosalin Kuiper is one of the most exciting personalities in international sailing.

In addition to wind, waves and sailing around the world, there is another major challenge in her life: being a mother. The "Sportclub Story" accompanied Rosalin Kuiper into her very different worlds - on land and on the water. The portrait also looks back at the Ocean Race 2023 and the adventures Kuiper had with Boris Herrmann's Team Malizia alongside Boris Herrmann. It was at his side that she became known to many fans in Germany.

Who doesn't remember her part in repairing the mast at a dizzying height or the accident when she was thrown out of her bunk in heavy swell and suffered injuries to her face, the traces of which were unmistakable during the subsequent Cape Horn passage. Just as memorable, however, are her "End of Watch" podcasts from the Ocean Race with Boris Herrmann. For example, her recurring question to her crew mates and other sailors: how are they doing on a scale of 1 to 10?

The Kuiper portrait in the Sportclub Story

As the only female skipper in the Ocean Race Europe, Rosalin Kuiper now not only provides a penetrating insight into professional sailing, but also intimate insights into her role as a mother. Kuiper shows how she asserts herself in a discipline that is still dominated by men. She is a living example of how motherhood and top sporting performance are not a contradiction in terms.

Between adventure and longing, courage and risk, the film "Rosalin Kuiper - Ocean Mum with Heart and Sail" tells the story of a woman who naturally connects her worlds. She is as open about her defeats as she is about her highs and moments of happiness. At the end of her team Holcim-PRB's rollercoaster ride through Ocean Race Europe, she took stock of the situation without embellishment, but also with a positive outlook for the future.

NDR authors Sven Kaulbars and Tom Gerntke accompanied Rosalin Kuiper through the Ocean Race Europe, capturing exclusive scenes and conversations in front of and behind the scenes. The result is a picture of a modern young yachtswoman who still has a lot planned for her career, combined with a look back at her circumnavigation of the globe with Team Malizia 2023.

Premiere on NDR: "Ocean Mum with Heart & Sail"

NDR will show the portrait of the "Ocean Mum with Heart & Sail", edited by Jule Zeymer, for the first time on 19 October (Sunday) at 11.40 pm. After that, it will remain available in the NDR media centre. The link that is only currently available for the programme will be updated on Sunday evening can be found on the Sportclub Story homepage.

A furious finale! This is how the Ocean Race Europe came to an end:
