In the first half of its sixth season, the SailGP organisers have already published the provisional event plan for the seventh season in 2027. The good news for German fans: the Rockwool Germany Sail Grand Prix will return to Sassnitz on the island of Rügen for the third time in a row on 14 and 15 August next year! This firmly establishes the Baltic Sea port, which will be the focus of the SailGP this summer on 22 and 23 August, in the calendar of the global championship series.
"The fact that Sassnitz is firmly anchored in the 2027 global calendar underlines the success of our home event and the strategic importance of the German market for the league," says Tim Krieglstein. The CEO of the Germany SailGP Team presented by Deutsche Bank is delighted with the team about the long-term green light for the German SailGP event, saying: "The long-term partnership with the region gives us, our sponsors and the fans important planning security."
The high fan popularity factor already demonstrated in Sassnitz at the premiere played a role in the decision of the league conductors. Tim Krieglstein says: "The enormous interest in tickets for this year shows that the SailGP has arrived in Germany. We are looking forward to further expanding this premium sporting event together with the region in the long term." Team Germany has been working intensively on this, holding round-table discussions with entrepreneurs from the city, city and regional representatives and the region's tourism industry. "We experienced a very good atmosphere," says Tim Krieglstein.
What can spectators expect for Sassnitz? Tim Krieglstein says: "It will be similar to the premiere. Hopefully wind and weather too! Beyond that, there will be optimisations, something to do with the traffic routing and slightly larger grandstands. They will be built a little differently. Around 80 per cent of the tickets were already gone at the beginning of May. The team bases will also be similar to last year's."
At its premiere in 2025, the German SailGP was, among other things, the event in the league at which the most merchandise was sold. "That surprised me a bit too. The items aren't all that cheap. The fact that so much was bought also shows that it's worth it to people. That's cool!" says Tim Krieglstein. At the same time, the German racing team is also on the lookout for further team partners.
"We focus strongly on our identity: performance, no ego. The team is the star. We are also trying to further develop the topic of innovation and progress. We want to continue to surpass ourselves," explains Tim Krieglstein. Most recently, the with third place at the wild ride in the Bermuda Triangle very well again. The next test will take place on 30 and 31 May in New York. Click here for the event calendar for the current year.
As this year, the 2027 season will feature 13 events on six continents: in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East. The Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix in the world-famous Victoria Harbour in January 2027 will provide a spectacular kick-off. San Francisco is also celebrating its eagerly awaited comeback after a one-year break. Teams 14 and 15, which have already been sold, are also on the way. The league continues to grow.
Not all events in 2027 have already been given a date. These harbours will in the seventh SailGP season 2027 Host be: /25 July), Rockwool Germany Sail Grand Prix (14/15 August), Valencia/Spain (4/5 September), Italy (11/12 September), Enel Rio Brazil (9/10 October), Emirates Dubai presented by DP World (20/21 November). This will be followed by the season finale, for which the venue and date have yet to be announced.
The majority of the league's annual calendar is based on recurring events and long-term contracts with the organisers. This should also offer teams, sponsors, cities and fans planning security. The SailGP event in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen won the hearts of visitors at the first attempt in 2025. The area also offered ideal conditions for the Formula 1 of sailing. The Danish Rockwool team set the speed record of 103.93 km/h in the Baltic Sea area, which is still being chased.
Mayor Leon Kräusche was also delighted with the Sassnitz triple that has now been agreed, as he and his team had bravely and courageously tackled the premiere with many uncertainties and were rewarded for it. Kräusche said: "The renewed confirmation of the Germany Sail Grand Prix for August 2027 is an honour for Sassnitz and the entire island of Rügen. We have proven that we can offer a world-class backdrop for top-class global sport."
What he is aiming for with the SailGP partnership is also clear: "This event not only brings international attention and spectacular images of our coastline to the world, but is also an important economic factor for regional tourism. We are proud to welcome the world's sailing elite back to the city harbour."
