The new " Hetairos ", a 66-metre luxury yacht designed by Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design and Dykstra & Partner and built by Baltic, was the first vessel to cross the finish line of the Transatlantic Superyacht Regatta at Virgin Gorda yesterday at 01:00 CET. With a time of 8 days, 10 hours and 58 minutes (average: 15.12 knots), the yacht, which was launched last summer, took victory in terms of time sailed. In second place was the English "Sojana", 400 miles behind. Behind her was the Italian Wally 101 "Indio".
Further out on the Atlantic, some were still struggling with the after-effects of a nasty storm. "The wind died down an hour ago," confessed Mark Fliegner, the captain of the "Indio". "It's now only 23 to 28 knots. With a storm jib and third reef, we were a little underpowered, but when squalls of up to 46 knots blew through, it was just right. The average speed is satisfactory, but sometimes things really take off, with up to 24 knots."
The press communiqué eagerly announced that the award ceremony for this event, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, would take place in the new clubhouse on Virgin Gorda, "overlooking the purpose-built superyacht marina".
