Blue water specialist Bobby Schenk comments on the navigation error in the Volvo Ocean Race that led to the shipwreck of Team Vestas

Bobby Schenk, blue water sailor and navigation specialist, whose book "Yachtnavigation" has sold over 50,000 copies, comments on Team Vestas' accident in the Volvo Ocean Race in his latest column. He writes:

'Finally some real action in this round-the-world sailing race. The Vestas, a Danish yacht, hit the reef in good weather. At least the nine sailors on the racer are safe. So much for the positive side of this promotional event for Volvo. I feel sorry for the skipper, the navigator even more so, and indeed the entire crew of this plastic racing dish. Millions of people all over the world can read in the media or marvel in bewilderment at what abysmal stupidity can do. How, in a fraction of a second, human lives are put in danger and millions in value are destroyed."
