The next races of the Travemünde Week have been decided. Despite challenging weather conditions, the races were successfully completed in several boat classes. Especially in the J/22, Dyas and H-Boat classes, there were exciting decisions and smiling winners.

The Travemünde Week 2023 has crowned its first champions. After a fantastic weekend, Monday showed its changeable side with rain and weak, shifting winds. Nevertheless, race director Lorenz Buchler managed to complete the full programme for his three classes on the Golf course. He received a lot of praise from the participants for this. Reiner Brockerhoff from Duisburg continued his winning streak in the J/22 class. With his crew Christoph Declerque and Nils Hofmann, he once again won the German Open off Travemünde. "We were very happy with our performance, but also with the race organisation. Everything was just right - including the breaks between the races. Just right for regeneration, but not too long to keep the rhythm," explained Brockerhoff.

Close races in the J/22 class

Although the winning streak looked clear with six first places, the races were fiercely contested. "The top six were always close together. Some of the races were only decided after the last barrel. That was really fun," continued Brockerhoff. They were followed by Wolf Jeschonnek with Frank Sturm and Steffen Dülsen from Berlin as well as Andreas Dillmann and Julia Harder from Hamburg with the experienced Silke Basedow on board.

Dyas sailors celebrate third Travemünde victory

In the Dyas class, Arndt Fingerhut and Andreas Malcher from Lake Edersee secured their third title at the Travemünde Week. "This is our third title in Travemünde. We had top conditions on Sunday with nice wind and great waves. Today was a bit trickier. But it worked out well with our new boat," said a delighted Fingerhut. Michael Weber/Ralf Stuhlemmer (Koblenz/Kiel) and Eckard Meyer/Stephan Steffens (Hemer) followed in second and third place.

H-boats return successfully

After a long absence, the H-boats returned to Travemünde Week this year. The crew led by Holger and Jan Köhne and Sven Ulrich from Berlin secured victory. "It was really great - our own team performance, but also the work of the overall organisation. The class was here for the first time in years and felt completely at ease," summarised skipper Holger Köhne. In second and third place were the teams led by Jens Hanisch and Andreas Krause, both also from the Potsdam YC.

Topcat catamarans defy light winds

Despite the weak winds on Monday, two races were sailed in the Topcat catamarans. Sascha and Rene Treichel from Wolfsburg took the lead in the K1 class, while Robert Zank and Tim Stiegler from Ammersee are ahead in the K2 class. In the K3 class, which is sailed solo, Paul Säger has shown the greatest consistency so far and leads the field.

Outlook for further decisions

The Finn dinghies and Corsairs are heading for their final on Tuesday. Berlin's Fabian Lemmel (Finn) and Dirk Braun and Jürgen Kruck (Korsar) from Wuppertal are currently in the lead. Three more races are planned for both classes at the end.
