After a mixed sporting year in 2025, the organisers of Travemünde Week 2026 want to send out a clear signal again. The regatta programme will be highly international: with many World and European Championships and the RS Games, which will take place outside England for the first time, Travemünde will become the focus of class regattas for a week.

Record course at World and European Championships

For the 137th edition of the Travemünde Week the organisers are expecting around 900 boats and over 1,500 sailors. This was announced at the programme presentation during boot-Düsseldorf. The sporting centrepiece is the density of title competitions: an expected 28 decisions, including 16 world and European championships. This is an extraordinary number even for Travemünde.

RS Games outside England for the first time

The biggest single attraction is the RS Games. For the first time, this format will not be held in England and Travemünde will therefore receive a package that is likely to characterise the regatta week: twelve RS classes have been announced, combined with 13 championships. For many crews, this is also interesting for planning purposes, as the programme is designed in such a way that some participants can compete in several classes, from youngsters to parents.

A Youth World Championship will be held at the RS Feva. Back in 2021, 97 boats competed off Travemünde, and this time the field is likely to be larger. The RS Tera is also expected to attract around 80 boats to the World Championships. There are two title programmes in the RS Aero: European Championships for the adults and World Championships for the youngsters, divided into four rig categories. In total, there could be over 150 participants. In addition, the RS 500 will sail as a fast skiff class for world and European championship titles.

The other RS classes will be somewhat smaller. However, the quality of the field of participants will also be top class. The modern dinghies and skiffs of the RS 100, RS 200, RS 400, RS 700 and RS 800 will be sailing for the European Championship title, as will the RS Vareo.

And the shipyard from Great Britain offers even more variety. With the RS21, a keelboat class is coming to the Euro Cup in Travemünde, and the RS Venture Connect - also equipped with a keel - has established itself as the inclusive class par excellence and will be sailing for the European Championship title at the Travemünde Week.

Classics with history: Vaurien, dragons, folk boats

Traditional classes will also provide strong sporting anchor points in 2026. The Vaurien will return with their world championship, as they did in 2018, this time in the year of the 75th anniversary of their construction. The dragons will be sailing for the North German Championship, with many top crews already checking out the area with a view to the planned 2027 Gold Cup. A special prestigious event is also expected for the Nordic Folkboats: The Gold Cup is coming to Travemünde and will be sailed there for the tenth time in 2026, a trophy with roots in Lübeck and a high status in the class.
