The 74th Rund Um on Lake Constance ends with a new course record. Moritz Kleindienst from the Lindauer Segler-Club wins on the catamaran "All you need" in 3:38:33 hours. In perfect conditions, 240 of the 256 boats that started reached the finish line.

The 74th edition of the legendary Lake Constance sailing regatta Rund Um makes history. Moritz Kleindienst from the Lindauer Segler-Club (LSC) not only secures overall victory on the catamaran "All you need", but also sets a new course record of 3 hours, 38 minutes and 33 seconds. The 23-year-old local hero beat the previous record by more than six minutes. In ideal weather conditions with three gusts of wind and sunshine, 240 of the 256 boats that started reached the finish line off Lindau.

Perfect start

The 74th Rund Um presented itself from its best side on 20 June. Against the picturesque backdrop of Lindau Island, 256 boats in 18 classes and four groups set off on the 100-kilometre route on Friday afternoon. Around 5,000 spectators watched the start from the island, while others gathered on the Hoyerberg, at Villa Alwind and in Lindenhofpark. The historic steamship Hohentwiel served as the starting ship and offered an impressive view of the tightly packed starting field.

Kleindienst dominates

Moritz Kleindienst took the lead with his catamaran "All you need". The young skipper took a commanding lead at the buoys near Romanshorn, Constance and Überlingen. He headed towards the finish line on an almost direct course and gave the spectators on the LSC pier a moment to admire the fast catamaran with two final tacks. Kleindienst crossed the finish line after 3:38:33 hours.

The 23-year-old boat builder, who grew up on Lake Constance, made history with his victory. He is not only the youngest winner of the traditional regatta, but also the fastest. Kleindienst beat the previous record set two years ago by Fitz Trippolt with the catamaran "Skifit" by six minutes and seven seconds.

However, his success is no accident. Kleindienst was already part of the winning crew on the "All you need" last year, but not yet as skipper. This experience and his ambition spurred him on to take full responsibility for the boat and crew this year.

Since the beginning of the year, Kleindienst has invested countless hours in fine-tuning the catamaran, carrying out test runs in a wide range of conditions and optimising every regatta-relevant move on board. He paid particular attention to the composition of his international crew. "Boats have a soul that the skipper needs to reach out and touch. Only then can you become one with yourself and the boat," says Kleindienst, explaining his philosophy.

For Moritz Kleindienst, his record-breaking victory in the Rund Um 2025 is just the beginning. At the award ceremony, when he received the coveted Blue Ribbon from the President of the Lindau Sailing Club, Dr Martin Niederkrüger, he was already looking to the future. "After the race is before the race," explained the young skipper, announcing that he intends to compete again in 2026 to defend his title.

Tension in the subsequent groups

In starting group 1, Wolfgang Palm on "Wild Lady" (YCL) took the lead and never relinquished it until the finish. The 80-85 yardstick group experienced a thrilling finish: Walter Müller on "MaxiMumm" (SCBO) overtook the long-time leader "Scylla" (WYC) shortly before the end and secured the class win. In starting group 2, Alex Höss on "Filius 3" (BSC) and Bernd Buck on "Jamas" (YCL) fought a neck-and-neck race, which Höss ultimately won.

The perfect weather conditions with constant wind and clear visibility enabled 240 of the 256 boats that started to cross the finish line. The main field of larger boats took around nine hours to complete the circumnavigation, while the smaller boats arrived after around eight hours on a shortened course. Only a few crews had to hold out longer due to a change in wind direction and a brief lull just before the finish.
