The 89th edition of the North Sea Week will take place off Helgoland from 17 to 20 May. The German Sailing Association (DSV) has also awarded the International German Championship (IDM) in offshore sailing to the regatta organisation

Pantaenius Round Skagen

The highlight of the North Sea Week, the "Pantaenius Rund Skagen" regatta, will be held on Whit Monday at around 4.30 pm. The largest German long-distance regatta, which only takes place every two years (always in the year with the "even" number), measures over 500 nautical miles. The course takes the participants from Helgoland around Skagen to the finish off Kiel.

The regatta was first held in 1932, and the first start after the Second World War took place in Bremerhaven in 1950. Since 1953, the race has been sailed from Helgoland to Kiel again. Pantaenius has been the main sponsor of Rund Skagen since 1994, when it also donated the challenge prize, a large cast bronze sculpture of a Viking ship by Hermann Noack. The owners of Pantaenius, the Baum family, regularly take part in the long-distance regatta themselves. This year, Daniel Baum, one of the managing directors of Pantaenius, has once again entered his "Elida". Last year, he was the "first ship home" in the Helgoland Offshore Triangle.

The racing action can be followed via live tracking.

North Sea Week schedule

The first race starts on Friday morning, 17 May, at 10 a.m. and runs from Wedel to Cuxhaven. The evening before there will be a farewell party in the Wedel marina. The 89th North Sea Week will then be officially opened in Cuxhaven on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, the "feeder" races to Helgoland will start. The crews set off from Hooksiel at nine o'clock, the boats from Bremerhaven and Hallig Hooge start at ten o'clock and the "Noblex Cup" begins at eleven o'clock. It takes the participating crews from Cuxhaven to Helgoland. In the evening, the prize-giving ceremony for the feeder regattas and the big boot regatta party with live music are planned on Helgoland.

On Sunday, the crews start the "Capitell Cup" round Helgoland at 9.30 a.m., with the awards ceremony and the "Capitell" regatta party taking place in the North Sea Hall in the evening. The crews sailing the Heligoland Eight have to be up early on Monday - their start is already scheduled for nine o'clock. The regattas from Helgoland to Hooksiel, Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven all start at around 3 pm.

About the North Sea Week

Germany's largest ocean racing event on the North Sea celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022. The event was founded by the Weser Yacht Club, the North German Regatta Association (NRV), the Hamburg Yacht Club and the Lower Elbe Sailing Association. This year, the Pantaenius Rund Skagen race will take place on Whit Monday. The long-distance regatta runs from Helgoland via Skagen to Kiel and alternates with the Helgoland Offshore Triangle (H.O.T.) race across the North Sea, which will be sailed in 2025. In addition, the International Sailing Championships, Offshore (IDM Seesegeln, Offshore) will also be held in 2024, which will be counted from the results of the Capitell Cup Rund Helgoland and Pantaenius Rund Skagen races.
