The third season of the inclusive sailing series on the Outer Alster in Hamburg ended with the final of the Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup 2025.
14 teams from three nations sailed for the Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup on the Alster in Hamburg at the weekend. Despite changeable conditions, the Norwegian team "Salto" secured overall victory. The event was also characterised by fundraising campaigns and the formation of a youth team.

A total of 14 teams from Germany, Norway and Belgium came to Hamburg's Alster last weekend to celebrate the end of the season for numerous inclusive sailing activities at the Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup 2025. The finale of the regatta series, organised by Yachtclub Möhnesee and the association "Wir sind Wir - Inclusion in Sailing" in co-operation with the Heinz Kettler Foundation is the crowning glory of a successful season.

Norwegian team comes out on top

The weather conditions at the weekend were extremely contrasting. While not a single race could be sailed on Saturday due to a lull, the wind and weather showed their better side on Sunday. This enabled the teams to once again collect important points for the overall standings.

After a total of 36 races spread out over the year, the Norwegian team "Salto" (Kristiansen/Finnestrand) finally came out on top. Second place went to the team "Die Zwei" (Brietzke/Mainka), followed by the team "Alster" (Thalheim/Brix) in third place.

Generous donations for inclusive projects

In addition to the sporting competitions on the water, the SailGP Team Germany caused quite a stir. On Friday evening, the team presented a helmet signed by co-team owner Sebastian Vettel to a donor. She had bought the helmet at auction for 7,000 euros. The money is to be used for inclusive children's and youth projects.

Another highlight of the evening was a donation of 38,000 euros from the Böttcher Foundation. This money will be used to purchase a new boat, an RS Venture Connect, which will bear the name "Johann Max Böttcher".

Foundation of a Heinz Kettler youth team

The "Heinz Kettler Inclusive Youth Sailing Team Germany" was also officially founded as part of the event. The team is under the patronage of Anna Barth, strategist of SailGP Team Germany, and is supported by a 10,000 euro donation from the Heinz Kettler Foundation.

The Heinz Kettler Deutschland Cup and the SailGP Team Germany had several points of contact in the 2025 season. The second regatta weekend of the inclusive racing series was integrated into the SailGP event in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen.

Inclusive Alster" initiative

The regatta series is part of the "Inclusive Alster" initiative, which is a joint project of several Hamburg sailing clubs. The aim of this initiative is to familiarise children, young people and adults with the sport of sailing and regatta sailing. According to its own information, the initiative has made ten weekly and fortnightly inclusive sailing programmes possible in 2025.
