When it comes to preparing for the 2027 Garmin Round Denmark Race, the early bird catches the worm. The organisers are opening their registration portal as early as next week: From 19 October (12 noon), solo sailors, two-person teams and crews can register for the Round Denmark Race, which starts and finishes in Aarhus. Next year, the race will take place from 30 June to 9 July.
The organisers have cheerfully described their three categories as follows: “Me, myself and 700 nautical miles”, “Choose your partner wisely (double-handed)” and “More hands. More speed. More options (crew)”. The home port for the Garmin Round Denmark Race is, and remains, the attractive Aarhus International Sailing Centre, which is also valued as a training base by Olympians from across Europe.
The course takes all competitors from Aarhus through the Kattegat to Skagen, before heading south through the Öresund and into the Baltic Sea, rounding Bornholm. From there, the route continues westwards through the South Funen Archipelago and up through the notorious Little Belt, before the final sprint to the finish line in Aarhus Bay begins. Here, the route Key figures and rules for the edition next year.

Garmin prizes await the winners.

For German crews, this summer’s Garmin Round Denmark Race brought not only great sport but also some fine successes. Lorenz Jensen and his crew on the JPK 10.30 “Rentnerbank” won the ORC classification. The twelve-strong crew on the J/V 52 “Haspa Hamburg” had previously set a new course record, covering 680 nautical miles in 85 hours, 33 minutes and 34 seconds – beating the previous record by more than five and a half hours.
This time set by “Haspa Hamburg” will serve as a benchmark and a challenge for the competitors next summer. The same goes for the dedicated organising team at the Aarhus International Sailing Centre. Event director Søren Ilsø Mahneke said: “The Garmin Round Denmark Race is an event we organise with great enthusiasm. The race brings with it so many friendships, stories, challenges, experiences and unforgettable moments that you simply have to let yourself be swept away by it.”
