Berlin: LAKEitEASY aims to revitalise the sailing scene
The regatta scene in the capital is to be further developed with the LAKEitEASY new momentum. Three partner clubs organise races on Wannsee, Müggelsee and Tegeler See.

Long-distance regattas have been sailed in Berlin for over 75 years - a tradition that is now being continued with the initiative LAKEitEASY into the future. Three partner clubs have joined forces to organise a regatta series on Berlin's inland waters in 2026. The Seglergemeinschaft am Müggelsee (SGaM) will host the 20-hour race on Lake Müggelsee on 30 May, the Potsdamer Yacht Club ("PYC") will follow on 19 June with the 60-nautical-mile race on Lake Wannsee, and the Tegel district will complete the series on 3 July with a newly created 18-hour race on Lake Tegel. There will be an overall ranking for all three events and special prizes. The initiative is being organised under the patronage of Jörn Alexander Kinner, President of the Berlin Sailing Associationand has the fair Boat & Fun Berlin as the main sponsor.

Offshore feeling on inland waters

The concept of offshore regattas on inland waterways may sound contradictory at first, but it offers unique challenges, according to the initiators. "If you sail 60 nautical miles on the Wannsee, it's as if you've sailed the Warnemünde - Gedser route three times," says the announcement. During the 20-hour race on the Müggelsee, the distance travelled at an average speed of four knots corresponds to a tour from Stralsund around Rügen and back - only in the middle of the capital, the organisers continue to advertise.

The initiative does not simply want to combine three regattas, but to pursue a higher goal: "Sailing must reach the centre of society and become accessible," is the organisers' motto. Sailing is to become more visible with campaigns accompanying the regatta series and clubs are to be given the opportunity to gain new members. The concept is aimed at both experienced sailors and beginners and includes various formats from long-distance regattas overnight to classic short-distance races during the day. Christopher Bey, initiator of LAKEitEASYemphasises the long-term growth of the event through side events in addition to classic regatta sailing. The number of participants is set to grow in new stages each year.

LAKEitEASY aims to create added value

The organisers have entered into cooperation agreements with various partners from the sailing industry, including rope manufacturers, yacht insurers and sailmakers. Participants receive access to discount codes from these partners regardless of their subsequent regatta result. "We don't pass on any of your data! You decide for yourself when and which codes you want to redeem," the organisers assure us.

Berlin has the largest interconnected waterway network in Europe - an advantage that the initiative LAKEitEASY would like to use. Although the different sailing areas are separated by bridges, they can be reached within a very short time with the mast lowered. This means that sailors can travel from one area to the other and experience completely different waterscapes.
