Long prepared, now ready: Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink have their Class40 ready to go for an unusual winter campaign: Hamburg's best-known sailing team wants to set a world record for the course around Denmark. The aim of the Next Generation Sailing team is to break the four-year-old record set by Ocean Race veteran Bouwe Bekking.

Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink don't want to end the year without a bang. The Class40 sailors from Team Next Generation Sailing are ready for a world record attempt. With their Class40 "Task Engineering", the duo want to break the record time that Ocean Race veteran Bouwe Bekking and his crew set in 2020 in the Garmin Round Denmark Race on the much larger "Childhood II".

Garmin Round Denmark: Record in sight

The VO65 racer mastered the course four years ago in 70 hours, 24 minutes and 21 seconds. The same course will now take Burke and Fink around Denmark: Their winter race against the clock also starts in Esbjerg. They will sail around Skagen and Bornholm, past Funen to Aarhus, where the Danish heart of sailing beats particularly loudly at the Aarhus Sailing Centre. Here, many Danish Olympia- and also SailGP-sailor at home.

Officially, no record has yet made it into the Guinness Book of Records on the challenging 760 nautical mile course around Denmark. Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink now want to change that with their fast "task engineering" and the course they have set in advance.

In order to achieve an officially recognised result, the journey will be monitored by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) and the Aarhus Sailing Center. Emilia Vaes, an on-board reporter, will also be accompanying the world record attempt and reporting live.

"Task Engineering" ready in Esbjerg

In preparation for their latest challenge around Denmark, Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink have already completed three training sessions. This allowed them to get to know the route better and optimise the boat for the conditions. Now the "Task Engineering" is in Esbjerg, ready for a start at any time.

The crew has announced a three-day decision-making window before a potentially suitable launch date. However, the team announced Code Orange: "We are on standby for the right weather, perfectly prepared and ready to take off at any time."
