Races

- In the season finale of the 52 Super Series in Valencia, “Platoon Aviation” extended its lead over its closest rival, “Sled”, from 11 to 20 points.
- A decisive upward trend on Friday: after finishing 13th, they went on to finish 5th and 4th, whilst “Sled” could only manage 8th and 11th.
- A maximum of two races are possible on the final day; if “Platoon Aviation” finishes ahead of “Sled” in either of them, it will once again be crowned season champion.

52 Super Series: ‘Platoon Aviation’ crew within touching distance of the season’s title

- Damien Guillou holds a clear lead in the 2026 Golden Globe Race, whilst the rest of the field has been stretched out considerably by the weather and stopovers.
- The new ‘GGR Window Live’ system provides one-sided live insights and increases reach, but has faced criticism and sparked debates over the rules.
- Skippers such as Helga Marie Løvenskiold Kveseth and Pär Nyman have criticised the pressure to maintain coverage, conflicts over the rules, and infringements on privacy and the spirit of the race.

Golden Globe Race 2026: Guillou in the lead, GGR Window Live sparks debate

- After four of the eleven races in Valencia, “Vāyu” leads on 17 points, ahead of “Platoon Aviation” (18) and “Alkedo Cetilar”/“Sled” (both on 19).
- “Platoon Aviation” extended its lead in the overall standings from 11 to 12 points over title rival “Sled”, though it has yet to establish dominance.
- Tactician Vascotto criticised the team for watching “Sled” too closely in the second race; variable, offshore winds call for an independent racing strategy.

52 Super Series: “Platoon Aviation” comes out on top in the clash with “Sled”

- Boris Herrmann is sailing in Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez aboard the classic yacht ‘Tuiga’, built in 1909, and is thus temporarily turning his back on the ‘Malizia 4’.
- With skipper Jimmy Spithill, tactician Loïck Peyron and crew boss Pierre Casiraghi, the “Tuiga” wins the “Grand Tradition” group, level on points with the “Viveka”.
- Herrmann emphasises the honour of sailing on the Yacht Club de Monaco’s flagship, praises the team and the atmosphere, and draws parallels between classic and modern sailing.

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez: “Just like in the old days” for Boris Herrmann

- Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2026: 253 yachts, ideal conditions, a large fleet of classic yachts and a strong J-Class field, with ‘Svea’ taking the win.
- German successes: ‘Topas’ (Harald Bruning) wins IR3, ‘Iskareen’ (Arnt Bruhns) finishes second in IR4, with prominent sailors such as Boris Herrmann on the starting line.
- For 2027, the organisers are planning more J-Class yachts, a possible ‘Shamrock’ vs ‘Endeavour’ showdown and more visible finishes for the Maxi races.

Tradition meets modernity: that was Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2026

- “Platoon Aviation” heads into the 52 Super Series finale off Valencia as overall leaders, 11 points ahead of “Sled”.
- Ten races leading up to 10 October will decide the season’s title, with the main battle set to be between “Platoon Aviation” and world champions “Sled”.
- Following a technical resurgence and victory at the last event, the form book favours “Platoon Aviation”, though “Sled” is promising a close contest.

52 Super Series: Season finale looms – “Platoon Aviation” vs “Sled”

- France wins the Two-Handed Mixed World Championships in Marseille, ahead of Australia and Belgium; the bronze medal is decided by a margin of eight seconds after two days of sailing.
- Several crews receive time penalties: including Waksman/Gracheva for not having a radio, and Pratt/Radulic Ferrat for sailing into a restricted area.
- The German team Schmidt-Rybandt/Witthinrich, having fallen into a lull and dropped to the back of the field, staged a comeback with a thrilling final duel.

Offshore Mixed Doubles World Championships: The Thrilling Final in Marseille

- In future, instructors will require a national licence and several years’ experience in the German Championships (DM); they will be deployed by the DSV in consultation with the regional associations.
- The recreational boat licence is no longer required for the umpire licence; international umpires may now also issue the necessary assessments and authorisations.
- Any deviations from standard examination assessments must be agreed in advance with the DSV office before participants are informed of the procedure.

Racing: DSV amends its training and licensing regulations

- Tropical storm ‘Gonzalo’ strikes parts of the GGR fleet off Cape Verde in 2026, causing winds of up to 55 knots, five-metre waves and damage to yachts.
- Selim Yalçın withdraws following a shortwave radio failure and a stopover in Cádiz; Guy deBoer is awaiting clearance following structural repairs on Lanzarote.
- Leaders Guillou and Lawless are sailing in the south-easterly trade winds with a lead of around 550 nautical miles; new tools, GGR Window Live and GGR Stats, expand access to race data.

Tropical storm “Gonzalo”: First test for the Golden Globe Race

- Rixgens/Baden have withdrawn from the final of the Offshore Two-Handed Mixed World Championship due to spreading stringer damage in the bow section of their Sun Fast 30OD.
- The structural problems had already been spotted before the start as small hairline cracks; they could not be repaired due to a lack of materials and worsened during the race.
- Despite their frustration at the effort and expense involved, they made it to Marseille under their own steam; in the final, French and Uruguayan teams are in the lead.

Offshore Two-Handed Mixed World Championships: A bitter end to the World Championships for Rixgens and Baden

- J-Class: ‘Svea’ is forced to withdraw following a genoa failure; ‘Rainbow’ and ‘Hanuman’ share the wins in the two races.
- Maxi-1: “Northstar III” wins the first race, “V” (formerly “Tango”) the second; challenging up-and-down and coastal courses.
- BMW Trophy: The German yacht “Knutte” crosses the finish line just ahead of “Nanoq” and takes the provisional overall lead.

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2026: 251 crews, ideal conditions and the first drama

- A solo sailor fell overboard at night during the Silverrudder 2026, was towed behind his boat for 1.5 hours and rescued suffering from severe hypothermia.
- Fellow sailors and rescue workers describe chaotic but crucial radio communications; the handheld radio carried on board proved to be a lifesaver.
- Following harsher conditions than expected, the organiser and weather experts are reviewing the safety plan, including the mandatory use of PLBs and more precise, boat-specific weather information.
