The state capital of Schleswig-Holstein was once again the meeting place for the sailing scene: Kieler Woche attracted around 3,000 sailors and 3.5 million spectators from 60 nations this year. A major event that is worth reporting on. For this reason, we invited Marcus Baur for the latest episode.
Marcus Baur has already won several international sailing titles, including the world championship title in match racing. He is known for his tactical and strategic approach to regattas. In addition to his sporting successes, he also works as a sailing coach and passes on his knowledge and experience to up-and-coming talent. He shares valuable insights and experiences from the world of 49er sailing with the audience. Reflection also plays a role: Marcus Baur talks about his recent return to sailing at Kieler Woche, how it came about and the challenges involved.
In the 15th episode, Marcus Baur sheds light on technical advances, the importance of Kiel Week and why it should regain its World Cup status. Together with Timm Kruse, he talks about the changes in sailing since the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and explains how new technologies such as carbon rigs and modern sails have changed sailing in the 49er class. He also provides an answer to the question of how people communicated then and now. The former Olympian also shares his thoughts on the importance of teamwork, goal setting and the balance between success and experience in sailing.
