The second Bundesliga weekend of the season offered sailing conditions and sailing sport of the most varied kind as part of the Warnemünde Week. The 36 teams from all over Germany were challenged by lots and little waves and different wind conditions every day. The better the all-round qualities of the club teams, the better the result.
Sailing was possible every day off Warnemünde. Race director Christoph Zander (ETUF) and the team from the host Academic Sailing Club Warnemünde always managed to start the Bundesliga races on time and send all 16 planned flights for the first and second division teams onto the course over three days. The club teams from the capital, some 250 kilometres away, coped particularly well with the varied wind conditions.
The capital city teams in particular mastered the extremely varied conditions very well, especially the sailors from the Seglervereinigung 1903 Berlin (SV03) in the upper house. The crew with helmsman Erik Witzmann, Wolfram Kramer, Daniel Mauter and Andreas Wiener also benefited from the fact that they had already taken part in the third and final qualifying regatta for the Champions League final with the same quartet at the start of Warnemünde Week. After 16 races, the first league decision off Warnemünde went in their favour by a razor-thin margin: the SV03 came out on top with 40 points on the weekend account, level on points with their Wannsee neighbours from the Berlin Yacht Club.
The entire crew was in the flow. All manoeuvres went perfectly, the entire handling on board was well-rehearsed" (Andreas Wiener)
"We made too many mistakes in the races in the first part of the week," summarised Andreas Wiener from SV03 after the double outing. "In the league races that followed, everything was just right this weekend. The whole crew was in the flow. All the manoeuvres went perfectly and the entire handling on board was well-rehearsed. We are very happy to have won so narrowly against our rivals from the Berlin Yacht Club off Warnemünde." The two Berlin clubs, which are based in close proximity to each other on Wannsee, finished the weekend bow to bow. However, with six race wins compared to the five BYC victories, the SV03 had the higher number of better individual results.
With its victory on the second league match day, the SV03 has moved up to second place in the table with a total of six points. The league leaders from Mühlenberger Segel-Club (MSC, 4 points) were able to defend their lead in the table on the Hamburg Elbe with a two-point lead. In third place off Warnemünde, they once again presented themselves ready for the podium. In third place after the first two league weekends are the record champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV, 11 points), who sailed to eighth place on the Baltic Sea.
In the 2nd German Sailing League, the J/70 sailors from Westfälischer Yachtclub Delecke (WYD) won the second league weekend of the season. Second place went to the team from Klub am Rupenhorn (KAR) from Berlin off Warnemünde. Third place on the podium went to the team from the Entdecker- und Seefahrerförderverein (ENSFR). In this order, WYD (5 points), KAR (5 points) and ENSFR (8 points) also lead the second league table after the first two matches of the season.
We have been active in the league since 2019 and have not only made it onto the podium, but also to the top of the table - we now have to defend this position" (Carolin Junker)
"We really enjoyed it here in Warnemünde, the conditions at sea were great, the location, atmosphere and party on land were good," says Carolin Junker from the WYD Bundesliga team from North Rhine-Westphalia. She continues: "Now we hope that we can continue the season in such a positive way. We've been active in the league since 2019 and have not only made it onto the podium, but also to the top of the table - we now have to defend this position."
With the SCL and league teams, not only two attractive sailing formats are coming to Warnemünde, but also over 400 sailors for several days" (Oliver Schwall)
Commenting on the two league weekends at the Warnemünde Week, which were packed with sport and fun, Sailing Bundesliga founder and organiser Oliver Schwall said: "The enthusiasm for the league format is unbroken: short but many races, the central league boat park, the chance to get your home club on the podium and the evenings together after sailing are what make it so attractive for the sailors."
Schwall sees the integration of the Sailing Champions League and the Sailing Bundesliga into the Warnemünde Week as a plus point for the organisers of the big regatta week, saying in Warnemünde: "With the SCL and league teams, not only do two attractive sailing formats come to Warnemünde, but also over 400 sailors for several days. In terms of numbers, we are certainly the largest class, represent a not inconsiderable economic factor and attract a lot of attention with our extensive social media coverage and press work."
The third season summit of the German Sailing League will take place in just two weeks from 26 to 28 July. In addition to the races on the Kiel Fjord, there will be a big league party for all league teams, friends, fans and supporters at the "Kieler Yacht-Club" hotel. Tickets will be sold in advance directly at the "Kieler Yacht-Club" hotel.
