The fourth match day of the German Sailing League on Berlin's Wannsee has caused numerous shifts in the standings. After the summer break and the change from Seerevier Kiel to the inland area the cards were reshuffled. Despite only finishing in tenth place, the team from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein was able to defend its lead in the 1st division with a total of 14 points. The defending champions Mühlenberger Segel-Club remain in second place with 18 points. Joersfelder Segel-Club improved to third place with 20 points, closely followed by Münchner Yacht-Club, just one point behind.
The club team from the Überlingen Sailing and Motorboat Club (SMCÜ) secured the day's victory in the 1st division. The team from Lake Constance proved to be particularly well adapted to the changeable conditions of Lake Wannsee. They were followed in second place by the team from Joersfelder Segel-Club, who were able to capitalise on their home advantage on the Berlin waters. Third place on the podium went to the Münchner Yacht-Club. For some clubs, however, the weekend was disappointing: Akademischer Segelverein Warnemünde, Potsdamer Yacht-Club, Konstanzer Yacht-Club and Seglervereinigung 1903 Berlin slipped into the bottom of the 1st league table and now have to worry about staying in the league.
In the second Bundesliga, the Regatta Segler Neuruppin team came out on top of the match day. They were followed in second and third place by the clubs Seglervereinigung Wuppertal and Bocholter Yachtclub, who were equal on points. The team from Württembergischer Yacht-Club (WYC) continues to lead the overall table of the 2nd league, coming fourth on the Wannsee and holding a clear lead over the competition with eight points. "The gap between WYC and the other second division teams clearly marks the successful club from Lake Constance's claim to a starting place in the first division," analyses Anke Nowak, Managing Director of the German Sailing League. "The club is currently very successful with its excellent youth and competitive sport promotion, which is also reflected in the league results."
The weather conditions on the Wannsee presented the teams with different challenges. On Friday, the first day of the competition, there was a light summer breeze that allowed all the planned flights to take place. Saturday then brought a lull - only one flight could be sailed in almost midsummer weather. "The nervousness of the teams, with titles, promotion or relegation at stake, was palpable. Many were pushing to get out on the water and try another start," reports Anke Nowak. Sunday made up for this with ideal sailing conditions: Stable twelve knots of wind ensured action-packed races, which provided spectacular moments for both the teams and the numerous spectators in front of the clubhouse and on the pontoons.
After the conclusion of the successful fourth match day, Anke Nowak particularly emphasised the great hospitality of the Berlin Yacht Club and the strong voluntary commitment of the members: "All generations of the club were involved in the league match day and supported us to the best of their ability." Race director Lorenz Buchler also drew a positive conclusion: "The weekend was very challenging, both for my team and for the participants. All in all, it was a great event that offered everyone a lot on land and on the water. We at the club are already looking forward to the next event!"
The fifth match day of the German Sailing League will also take place on Lake Wannsee. From 19 to 21 September 2025, the Potsdamer Yacht-Club will be the organising club. The course will then be set for the final spurt of the season, in which the championship title, promotion and relegation will be at stake.
