When the races take place in February, sports enthusiasts can follow them on their PCs at home

Two weeks before the first race, the Société Nautique de Genève (SNG), trustee of the America's Cup (AC), has awarded the organisation of the media and event appearance of the regatta to the Consorcio Valencia 2007.

The 33rd battle for the coveted trophy, which will be fought on 8, 10 and 12 February off the coast of Valencia/Spain between defending champion Alinghi and challenger BMW Oracle Racing, will be organised by the Consorcio Valencia 2007.

Despite all the legal wrangling, the 33rd AC promises to be a regatta the likes of which has never been seen before. Especially as two of the fastest ships will be racing against each other on courses that will be up to six times longer than those previously known from the 32nd AC.

This poses a major challenge for the TV broadcast of the race, because in addition, for the first time in the history of the regatta, a free live broadcast will be available on www.americascup.com will be made available. The background to the free direct broadcast is the intention to reach the largest possible number of viewers.

In order to realise this ambitious goal within the next two weeks, Jorge Gisbert, General Director of the Consorcio Valencia 2007, has gathered a host of international media experts around him. Leading this team, which played a key role in the organisation of the last AC, will be Michel Hodara. The 48-year-old Swiss says of the ambitious schedule himself that it can only be met if you work together with specialists who are prepared to work 24 hours a day and set themselves the impossible goal.
