The main sponsor of the German America's Cup syndicate, Ralph Dommermuth, would like to christen the German America's Cup yacht "Germany", according to the "Bild-Zeitung".

Dommermuth may not have the last word, as he explained in an interview with the "Bild-Zeitung", but if it were up to him, he would name the new yacht, which will be completed in 2006 at the Knierim shipyard in Kiel, "Deutschland".

"We don't just want to reach the millions of sailing enthusiasts in our country, but the entire population if possible," says Dommermuth. After all, Germany is the most important market for his United Internet AG, which includes the Internet portal companies GMX and Web.de, for example.

With this in mind, the 41-year-old told Bild that he does not see his investment in the Americas Cup campaign as "sinking money". However, the fact that his commitment to the German team amounts to 25 million euros is not true, according to Dommermuth.
