First training session for the Cup rivals

The first challenger for the upcoming Cup defence, Team Australia, and defender Oracle Team USA have started training. Mathew Belcher has been named as skipper for the Australians. The 470 sailor won the 2012 Olympic Games and has been world champion five times. He will be in charge of the Australians' future Cup crew.

Cup defender Oracle Team USA also announced new crew members. In addition to helmsman Jimmy Spithill and tactician Tom Slingsby, both Australians, Andrew Campbell, Kinley Fowler, Rome Kirby, Kyle Langford, Joey Newton and Joe Spooner will take part in the first training session. Most of them were already on board at the last Cup, but 30-year-old Andrew Campbell, ten-time US Laser champion, is new.

Both teams began joint training yesterday in Sydney on AC-45 catamarans, which is scheduled to last until June.
