The veteran America's Cup designer sees no espionage in the actions of the Americans

Olin Stephens (Sparkman & Stephens) has spoken publicly for the first time about the events surrounding the "OneWorld" espionage. He speaks of "intellectual property" in designs.

The background to this is that the former designer of the New Zealanders, Laurie Davidson, is now the chief designer of "OneWorld" and he cannot simply hand over his knowledge at the border.

"When I was still active," Stephens said in an interview, "I always made it clear to my clients that they were allowed to use my plans, but that's why they still remain my plans. For me, penalising OneWorld with one minus point each is unfair." Stephens at least concedes to the five judges that they were unable to really delve into the subject matter due to the very meagre documentation.
