The restrictions on the transmission of TV images in Germany remain in place today, as Stephanie Martin from the America's Cup Event Authority explained to YACHT online. However, the media organisers hope to be able to make the live stream available in Germany on Thursday. The reason for the unfortunate blackout, according to Cascais, is a nationwide restriction on the transmission of live images via platforms such as YouTube.
The weather caprices in southern Portugal are similarly frustrating for the organisers. The area, historically a guarantee for a strong sea breeze, surprises with rain, fog, then again strong winds of over 30 knots - and today circulating winds to calm. That's why the race will start two hours late - with "4 to 10 knots from the west-north-west", as regatta director Ian Murray has just announced.
"It's disappointing, yes," he said. The AC-45 cats sail at 4 to 5 knots, but it only gets really exciting from 10 to 15 knots. Murray, an old hand in the Cup business, is nevertheless confident. "We'll see some good racing between now and Sunday," he assures us. "And this is just the start of a long journey."
