The airline Emirates has extended its sponsorship of the New Zealand team. This means that the Cup ambitions can continue to be cultivated

However, the extension does not mean participation. So far, only a kind of entry fee has been paid in order to have access to a boat of the new AC-45 class. This was also delivered immediately and training began.

According to team manager Grant Dalton, the plan is to take part in the pre-regattas from the middle of this year until 2012. However, whether a large AC-72 cat will be built depends on further discussions with sponsors. It is therefore not yet certain that Team New Zealand, one of the strongest racing teams ever, will take part in the Cup.
