German America's Cup team visits Kiel sailing camp 24sieben

Next Saturday, the United Internet Team Germany will be visiting the Kiel youth project Camp 24sieben with the America's Cup yacht "GER 72". Show manoeuvres and discussions with skipper Jesper Bank are on the programme on the "Open Tent Day"

After training on the outer fjord, the 26-metre Americas Cup yacht will sail to the camp (Kiellinie, Reventlouwiese) and perform a few manoeuvres there at around 2.30 pm. Mayor Angelika Volquartz, who christened the yacht in Valencia, Spain, just over a month ago, and Stefan Grützmacher, Chairman of the Stadtwerke Executive Board and the camp's main sponsor 24sieben, will then officially welcome the team.

At Camp 24sieben, a unique nationwide youth sailing project, the first German Americas Cup campaign in the 154-year history of the oldest and most coveted sailing trophy in the world will be presented. Skipper Bank and the United Internet Team Germany will be on hand to answer questions and sign autographs. Grinder competitions and Opti fun races by the crew round off the programme. Meanwhile, there will be an opportunity to take a closer look at the yacht by tender boat; however, the public will not be allowed on board. At around 5.30 pm, "GER 72" then makes its way home to the base camp at Pier 100 in the Kiel Canal. The doors will also open there so that spectators can experience the craning up close at around 6.30 pm and take part in guided tours of the Knierim shipyard.

The museum ship MS "Stadt Kiel" will accompany the boats of the United Internet Team Germany from the Reventlou Bridge to the locks. If you would like to be on board, you can now buy tickets for six euros at Camp 24|sieben (on the Kiellinie) and at the Kiel Tourist Information Centre (Stresemannplatz). On Friday, 5 August, tickets will also be available directly from the MS "Stadt Kiel" at Seegartenbrücke from 5 to 7 pm. Two special buses are available for the land route to Pier 100, which will set off from the turning bay at Reventloubrücke after the yacht has cast off and take guests back again after the shipyard tour.

On the "Open Tent Day", Camp 24sieben will of course also be offering its usual land programme with a knot trainer, sailing simulator, sailing games and beach volleyball. Sailing takes place every half hour with cutters and dinghies.
