The second day of competition off Valencia presented the America's Cup teams with difficult conditions with only four to six knots of wind. After a four-hour postponement, only four of the eight planned match races could be started. Nevertheless, exciting races developed over the course of the day.
In the first encounter, K-Challenge from France led for a long time ahead of the Swiss AC defender Alinghi. It was only on the last gybe that Alinghi managed to overtake, as K-Challenge was unable to recover the gennaker.
The second race of the day was won by Le Défi from France ahead of +39 from Italy. The third race was contested by Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Challenge - final score 1:0 in favour of New Zealand. Team Shosholoza from South Africa trailed BMW Oracle Racing from start to finish in the fourth race and was the clear loser.
Alinghi now leads with three wins ahead of Le Défi, Luna Rossa, Team New Zealand and BMW Oracle with two wins each. They are followed in 6th place by K-Challenge with one win and Team Shosholoza and +39 with zero points.
The cancelled races will be made up later in the week.
