While the German America's Cup team is training for the next acts in Sicily, there will be a highlight in Kiel on 18 September: part of the crew will be sailing in the inner fjord regatta against a team from Kiel.
Anyone who thinks that Americas Cup sailors only have the famous top regatta in mind is mistaken. On two Bavaria yachts, five sailors from the United Internet Team with Jesper Bank compete against an equally high-calibre crew from the Kiel.Sailing City team. It's well worth a visit: the boat-to-boat races will be expertly commentated from shore.
After the Louis Vuitton Acts in Malmö, the next two Acts are coming up for the team at the end of September. In the meantime, the German cupper "GER 72" has already been shipped to the Mediterranean, so the team is now training on two Bavaria 42match boats off Kiel.
And these boats will be competing against each other on Sunday. Gerrit Bottenmöller, Henrik Blakskjær, Jochen Wolfram, Matti Paschen and Thomas Jacobsen are expected to take part on one yacht with skipper Jesper Bank. The other yacht will change crews and will also compete with a first-class group: Jörg Diesch, Rene Schwall, Wolfgang Hunger and Marcus Baur have confirmed their participation with Kiel.Sailing City.
The two yachts arrive in front of the Landeshaus on Kiel's inner fjord at 2 pm. After the welcome in the marquee, the two crews will be introduced. The first match race will start at around 3.00 pm, followed by two more races. The award ceremony will take place in the tent at around 5 pm. Afterwards, the sailors will be available to talk about match racing, the Americas Cup and the German campaign of the United Internet Team Germany.
