Shortly beforehand, it was announced that a campaign is only considered an official challenge if the entry fee has also been paid. Team New Zealand had sought this decision because it felt that its interests were not being safeguarded. Previously, smaller teams that had announced their intention to challenge but had not yet paid were able to vote on issues concerning the large AC-72 catamarans. Grant Dalton, head of Team New Zealand, now sees the balance of power restored. His team, together with co-operation partner Luna Rossa, is on the one side against defender Oracle Racing together with the first challenger Artemis Racing, whose team boss Paul Cayard is said to be very close to the American team.
