The German participant United Internet Team Germany sailed against sparring partner Desafio Español 2007.
Chris Dickson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BMW Oracle Racing, will be at the helm for Acts Six and Seven of the Louis Vuitton Cup in Malmö. This change was announced by the team management two days before the first race on Thursday 25 August in Malmö.
The former skipper has thus returned to the active sailing crew, changing the only partially successful combination of John Kostecki/Gavin Brady (only fourth place before Valencia). While the former tactician Kostecki is no longer part of the team, the former helmsman Brady is to be deployed as tactician off Malmö.
Skipper Dickson commented in a press conference: "All changes have been made with our long-term concept in mind. The end goal is to win the Americas Cup. Our men have worked hard and developed a winning mentality. With the four acts this year, we can still achieve our previously set goal."
There are further changes on board the Swedish "Victory" under skipper Magnus Holmberg. Here, AC veteran Jeremy Scantlebury (New Zealand), with his experience from six Americas Cup campaigns, will help to bring the Swedes forward. "He's not only a great sailor, but also knows a thing or two about design and development," Holmberg told the press.
The training sessions took place on Tuesday in five to eight knots of wind. BMW Oracle Racing boss Larry Ellison was also spotted at the helm in one race before Dickson took over.
