Six teams form up in front of the impressive backdrop of the southern French metropolis.

The logistical effort undertaken by the participants should not be underestimated. The delicate yachts are transported from all parts of Europe: they are towed by sea or shipped on dock ships.

The winning yacht of the 31st Americas Cup, the "Alinghi" with the sail number SUI 64 from Switzerland, has already arrived on board the freighter "Explorer". On board the same ship: the yacht of the French team "Le Défi" and that of the South African team "Shosholeza". Three other yachts are on their way to the French coast: the "K-Challenge" team, the New Zealand "Team Emirates" (the losing yacht in the 2003 Americas Cup final) and the American "BMW Oracle". Some of them will be transferred from Valencia to Marseille using special high-speed tows.
The Shore teams have plenty to do: The "Explorer" has brought 20 motorised inflatable boats alone. Plus dozens of masts for cup yachts and various containers with material.
The first starting shot for the regatta series, which is already the kick-off to the 32nd Americas Cup, will be fired on 5 September.
