The Swiss America's Cup syndicate Alinghi with Jochen Schümann has suffered a slight setback. Tactician Murray Jones (45) broke his foot and will not be able to sail for several weeks.
Jones was training with the two new boats SUI 64 and SUI 75 on the Hauraki Gulf off Auckland in three force winds when his foot got caught in the mainsheet.
The New Zealander is one of skipper Russell Coutts' closest confidants. They won the Cup together in 1995 and 2000. The Olympic fourth in the Flying Dutchman (1992) was mostly 32 metres up in the air. He transmitted information about the wind development on the course from the mast.
