German premiere in Berlin: The Swiss America's Cup winners from Team Alinghi are bringing the trophy to Germany for the first time in the 152-year history of the Cup.
Alinghi Sports Director Jochen Schümann (Penzberg) and Chief Designer Rolf Vrolijk (Hamburg) will present the 17.7-kilogram, 109.5-centimetre-high silver jug at a press conference on 8 May at 9 am at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in the German capital.
However, Germany's sailing enthusiasts will be able to take a look at the world's oldest sports trophy the day before, which will be on display at the Postmuseum on Potsdamer Platz on 7 May. Germany's first America's Cup winner Jochen Schümann also wants to show himself to his fans there in the afternoon: "I'm really looking forward to these two very special days in Berlin. At last, everyone who has been cheering us on will be able to see the Cup up close. I hope that many Berlin and German sailing fans will come."
Vrolijk and Schümann will announce details of Alinghi's plans for the future in Berlin. However, the most frequently asked question about the future venue for the America's Cup will also remain unanswered in Berlin: The winner of the eight shortlisted candidates will not be announced until December.
In addition to the Portuguese coastal town of Cascais near Lisbon and the holiday metropolis of Palma de Mallorca, the Spanish city of Valencia has now also conquered a top spot on the insiders' list of favourites.
