Alinghi will use its new yacht SUI 100 in the America's Cup match. The team announced this today as expected. The measurement process has been completed and the boat has been officially registered.
SUI 100 is the last of four Americas Cup Class yachts built by Alinghi since the team was founded in 2000 and the last ACC yacht to be built for this edition of the Americas Cup.
Commenting on the decision, Design Team Coordinator Grant Simmer said: "We have been very pleased with the performance of SUI100 since her launch on 17 March 2007. She brings together all the work we have done in this class since 2000 and we chose this boat because we have full confidence in the performance of SUI 100."
SUI 100 has never sailed in an official competition and has never competed against other teams in training. Nevertheless, after the training matches against the older SUI 94, Luna Rossa believes that the 100 is another big step forward.
The Italians say that the Alinghi boat will be 10 to 15 seconds faster than the New Zealanders on a cross course in mid-wind conditions. The same performance is assumed downwind.
