The boat is more reminiscent of a shrunken Open60 racer than a classic Swan. No wonder, as the Argentinian designer Juan Kouyoumdjian, who has also made a name for himself in this scene, was responsible for the design.

The ClubSwan 36 is a pure racer, offering nothing below deck that could be described as comfortable. But the technical data are all the more remarkable. It weighs just under three tonnes with a length of eleven metres, 1.2 tonnes of which is on the 2.75 metre deep keel. On top of that, 93 square metres of sail, 59 of which are in the main plus 134 square metres of gennaker, which quickly provides for gliding orgies on the beam.

There is something special in the front part of the boat with the C centreboard. This can be rotated to leeward or windward within a closed box and is designed to help the boat gain more height on the upwind course and to raise the bow a little on the centre sheet.

YACHT sailed the ClubSwan 36 as part of the European Yacht of the Year competition off Barcelona. See the gallery for impressions.

The test report can be read in YACHT 25/2019. The magazine is available in the DK shop, or you can download the test directly via the link below.
