Dehler is launching a new ocean-going unit class from 2020. The boat is still only available on the computer. Those who decide quickly can already save a lot now

It has been rumoured for some time, but now it's official: Dehler today launched the website for its latest and most spectacular project in a long time - the Dehler 30 One Design.

The 30 od is a modernisation of the Dehler model series, although the Dehler 29 will continue to be built, but at the same time it is also a bridge to the past. The success of the brand has always been linked to regatta victories, and the 30 od is intended to build on the success of the Sprinta Sport or DB1 as a new ocean-going one-off class. It is designed as a double-handed racer/cruiser, but should also offer a crew of up to six people the necessary comfort on a holiday cruise.

The sporting orientation is based on a coastal circuit such as the Silverrudder, but transatlantic regattas should also be possible. In other words, an all-rounder that combines speed with cosiness. Incidentally, the hull length of 30 feet was chosen to be at the upper limit of a Silverrudder group, which is a good starting point for a victory.

As this is a standard class, the boat is offered complete, with carbon fibre mast, keel with aluminium fin and lead bomb, water ballast, bowsprit and interior fittings. In addition to the standard list price of 129,591 euros (incl. VAT), the six-piece sail set, consisting of main and genoa, code zero, staysail and two gennakers, costs around 20,000 euros - making a total of around 150,000 euros ready to sail.

The shipyard is offering a discount of around ten percent until 30 June 2019 to those who are quick to make up their minds and are willing to buy a boat that only exists in the computer (the mould construction is currently being completed); without sails, the complete boat is available for 118,881 euros.

YACHT accompanies the Dehler 30 od project from the very beginning in a multi-part series of articles and reports on how a modern, sea-going yacht is created, from the design and production of the moulds to the prototype and series production. Project manager Karl Dehler, son of Dehler founder Willi, and the design office Judel/Vrolijk & Co in Bremerhaven let us look over their shoulders and onto their hard discs with astonishing openness.

The first episode appears in YACHT 8/2019, available to all subscribers from Saturday, at newsagents from 3 April or can be ordered digitally here. It explains the concept of the Dehler 30 od, the target group for which it is suitable and the competitive environment in which it operates. Plus an interview with Karl Dehler.

Incidentally, the magazine quotes a base price of 117,500 euros excluding VAT. This was a preliminary calculation, which has now been finalised after the editorial deadline.
