Things are tight with the IMS-600s
Christian Plump leads in the IMS-600-EM

The international part of Kiel Week came to an end with a total of six German overall victories in 15 classes. The second most successful nation on the regatta courses was Denmark with five wins, two class wins went to Australia and one win each to Belgium and Italy.

The duo Wolfgang Hunger/Holger Jess (Kiel/Eckernförde) finally prevailed in the 505. For Hunger, this meant his 14th victory in total at the Kieler Woche - he is now just one win away from the previous record held by Gerd Eiermann (Duisburg).

On the sea course, the action is dominated by the races in the IMS 600 European Championship. A total of six short races have been completed so far by the 14 participating yachts, with the "Hanseatic Lloyd" of Christian Plump (Bremen) a German ship in the lead. But the programme for the boats is far from complete with the races sailed so far. Another short race will be sailed on Wednesday before the medium distance race across the entire Baltic Sea starts at 12.00 noon.

The rules are tough in the thoroughly professional scene of the IMS 600 boats: no strings, limiting the number of professionals on board and other rules make for pure regatta sailing. The resulting disadvantages have already been felt by one of the favourites, the Mann/Jungblut team with the "Hispaniola". After a black flag decision, the ship is only in fourth place overall despite a first and a second place in the last two races. The "Hanseatic Lloyd" (Plump/Swiss) is in the lead with three first places, one third, one fifth and one sixth place.
