BMW presents a varied programme at the Kieler Woche

The BMW boat harbour will once again be one of the most attractive venues of the 123rd Kiel Week from 18 June. As in the previous year, when this facility celebrated its premiere in the centre of Kiel, BMW is once again pursuing the goal of bringing sailing to the city in 2005.

The aim is to achieve this with a varied programme on the subject of BMW yachting - from virtual match racing to a "grinding competition" on the "Sailing Mile" on the banks of the BMW boat harbour. The daily 30-minute information tour will give visitors an insight into the high-tech sport of sailing and the fascination of the Americas Cup.

The highlight of the tour is a visit to the original Americas Cup yacht USA 61, which BMW Oracle Racing used as a training boat in preparation for the 2003 Americas Cup. With "BMW Regatta News", BMW offers a new and interactive format in the boat harbour: in addition to interviews with sailors, officials and guests of Kiel Week and exciting competitions, the daily highlights of the sporting competitions in Schilksee are also presented.

Peter Carstens (ARD/NDR) will be available as an expert presenter. In addition, "BMW Regatta News" will also feature reports and background information on the BMW Oracle Racing Team and the Louis Vuitton Acts 4 (16 to 22 June) and 5 (24 to 26 June) taking place almost simultaneously in Valencia.

The bridge between the pre-regattas for the oldest sporting trophy in the world and Kiel Week, the largest sailing event in the world, is also formed by two Americas Cup yachts - christened "Kiel" and "Valencia". On these boats, which will be sailed in Kiel for the first time, BMW invites you to a daily match-race duel in the Kiel Fjord.

The "Night of Champions" on 25 June will be the grand finale to what is sure to be another exciting week of sailing. BMW and the Kiel Yacht Club will then present the winners and stars of the sailing scene on the stage of the BMW boat harbour - including the best pictures from a week in Kiel and Valencia.

Where there is BMW, there must be motorsport: As part of the BMW Motorsport Day, the "US Grand Prix" can not only be followed live on the first weekend in the boat harbour. Not only will the BMW Williams F1 be on site in Kiel, but the Formula BMW ADAC Championship will also be presenting itself and its stars.

The exhibition on BMW CleanEnergy and driving with hydrogen as an alternative drive concept of the future, which was already very popular last year, provides insights into the mobility of tomorrow in the BMW boat harbour. This year's centrepiece: the BMW H2R hydrogen record-breaking vehicle. As in 2003 and 2004, BMW will once again offer the popular shuttle service for sailors, organisers and guests of Kiel Week as the "Official Car".

You will find a more detailed Kieler Woche programme in YACHT 13, available from 15 June.
