Federal President Horst Köhler will officially open Kiel Week on Saturday 18 June at the Rathausmarkt. The large yachts will already be at the finish of their eel regatta (start Saturday morning from 9.30 a.m. in the inner fjord) in Eckernförde at this time.
One of the most interesting classes in the international section (18 to 21 June) is the 505. It will meet for one of the last tests before the World Championship in August off Warnemünde, where there will be the biggest regatta in the history of the class with over 160 entries. The two-time world champions Dr Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess are also favourites for Kiel.
The former women's crew of the Admiral's Cupper "Rodeo" want to give it another go. They are taking part in the opening regatta on Saturday in Eckernförde on a borrowed yacht.
