Harbour master - moored in the north
NDR portrays four North German harbours and introduces their harbour masters. Authentic and lovingly produced and absolutely worth seeing

In the more than 200 harbours in northern Germany, harbour masters look after the many private boats sailing on the North and Baltic Seas and inland. Every day something unexpected happens, sometimes small and sometimes medium-sized catastrophes, and the hassle of dealing with long-term moorers and persistent complainers is the salt in the soup. And the weather always has surprises in store.

The job of harbour master does not require any training. Many have become harbour masters voluntarily after their professional life or for fun. They are men or women who moor other people's boats.

In each of the three episodes, the mini-series visits four harbours and introduces their harbour masters.

In this episode: Horumersiel, Sassnitz, Arnis and Hitzacker

Almost 80-year-old Hilka Hannover delights people at the Wangerland Yacht Club in Horumersiel with her wit as harbour master. Eckhardt von Loh turns a bridge in Hitzacker instead of driving it up. In Sassnitz, harbour captain Ronald Damp and harbour master Heino Müller share sailing boats and fast ferries. And on the Schlei in Arnis-Grödersby, Hans-Joachim Jensch launches a "moor witch" with heavy equipment.

When not (also) privately on the water, Morten can be found scuba diving or collecting fossils on the coast.
