Neither the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine nor rapid inflation can spoil sailors' enjoyment of their hobby. Quite the opposite. At least that is the result of a YACHT online survey ( You can find the detailed results here ). According to the survey, only one in seven respondents prioritises new personal priorities in life in view of the many crises in the world. Almost half, on the other hand, say that sailing has become even more important to them now. For almost as many respondents, their hobby has always been at the top of their list of favourite leisure activities anyway.
It is therefore not surprising that the vast majority of crews are sticking to their sailing plans for the season. Only five per cent of those surveyed are foregoing their sailing holiday. The picture is more differentiated when it comes to boat purchase intentions: more than half of all those who are currently planning to buy a boat are going ahead with their plans. However, around a quarter prefer to wait and one in five have given up their intention to buy for the time being. However: Although fuel prices are rising, only one in five are travelling to the boat less often. Some are trying to form car pools. Most want to go boating as often as possible. Sailing is more important to them than ever in times of crisis.
