Anyone who has no plans for the longest day of the year and is dreaming of a break under sail should make a note in their diary for 21 June at 7 pm. That's when water sports journalist Johannes Erdmann will be speaking in Düsseldorf about his experiences as a long-distance sailor and charter skipper: rousing, humorous, unembellished.
Originally, the YACHT editor, who took his first big trip straight after graduating from high school, had "only" planned an Atlantic cruise with his wife Cati and their 40-year-old Contest 33. But it turned into something more.
Even before they returned to Germany from the Caribbean, they decided to extend their two-year sabbatical to a life at sea. They bought a second-hand catamaran, converted it for commercial use as a charter boat and from then on travelled around the Bahamas with guests.
In his talk, Johannes talks about the bumpy start with the "Maverick Too", the ups and downs in four square metres of living space, heavy storms, leaden doldrums - and how they chose one of the most beautiful spots on earth to embark on a new chapter in their lives. He also reads a passage from his book "Könnt ihr mal das Segel aus der Sonne nehmen?", which is about his experiences as a charter skipper.
Johannes, who is currently still working at our sister magazine BOOTE and is currently on parental leave sailing in the Mediterranean, will soon be back on YACHT duty. He will be joining us from September.
The presentation as part of Land Rover Live is free of charge and will take place at Autohaus Moll, Am Seestern 3, 40547 Düsseldorf. If you would like to attend, please contact here (please click!)
