The Danish port town of Nyborg, with a population of 17,000, will remain the centre for the Vegvisir Race until at least 2023
After the celebrated Vegvisir Race 2021, Nyborg is confirmed as the heartbeat chamber until 2023. Event organiser Morten Brandt-Rasmussen is "very, very happy"

The Vegvisir Race will remain loyal to its successful home port of Nyborg for another two years until at least 2023. This was announced by the organisers on Wednesday. With the strong twin city, the title of the popular Danish sailing rally is also changing and will now be called Vegvisir Race Nyborg. The next edition is planned for early autumn 2022, starting on 1 September and ending on 3 September with a big party in Nyborg. Initiator, concept creator and event driver Morten Brandt-Rasmussen said: "I am very, very happy that the Vegvisir Race will remain in Nyborg for the next two years. The town is perfect in every way imaginable for a great international sailing adventure. You can set creative courses in the surrounding area, where the Great Belt, Smålandshavet, the island world of South Funen, the eastern Baltic Sea, the Öresund, the Little Belt and the Kattegat come into play. Not all in one year, of course... "

What also makes Nyborg attractive as the home port of the Vegvisir Race is its easy accessibility. Situated in the centre of Denmark, the town north of Langeland on the east coast of Funen is easy to reach for participants from Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Starters from all over Europe can easily reach Nyborg on their own keel or by train or flight. As co-organiser, the Nyborg Sejlforening association is in the same boat as the organisers of the Vegvisir Race. Club chair Marianne Holmer commented on the decision in favour of Nyborg as the heart of the regatta: "We at Nybord Sejlforening are overjoyed that the city of Nyborg has decided to focus on sailing in this way. Our club is one of the oldest sailing clubs in the country. Sailing and regattas have characterised the town for decades. By continuing the Vegvisir Race Nyborg, we have the opportunity to inspire not only Danish sailors, but also European sailing enthusiasts. In this way, we can contribute to Nyborg's reputation far beyond the country's borders."

Part of the concept for the Vegvisir Race Nyborg are the annually changing courses for the adventure. This will also be the case again in 2022. "We will present the new courses on 19 November," announces Morten Brandt-Rasmussen, "we can't reveal too much yet, but they will be very demanding courses that will place high demands on the navigators and participants in terms of their stamina and ability to adapt to the inshore and offshore challenges." The entry portal for the Vegvisir Race Nyborg will open on 1 December and will have a similar structure to last year. As before, there will be staggered fees to reward early entry. The tickets will include a berth in Nyborg's inland port between 28 August and 4 September as well as other services. These include guaranteed participation in the legendary Vegvisir Race afterparty with dinner, music and more. Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
