The big season overview: 26 shorthanded regattas in the Baltic Sea
The thrill of sailing alone or sailing far is not quite comparable, but it is something. Alone, the adventure of having completed a more or less long or arduous course, often at the limits of what is physically possible, is certainly more important. In pairs, things are usually more ambitious and sporting success takes centre stage, simply because it works better in pairs, with a changing of the guard and mutual trust, the shared burden of responsibility, than alone. In addition, the team of two is the smallest possible regatta crew with the least team logistics. Or to put it another way: you can always find someone to sail with you, but getting five, seven or more people together is becoming increasingly difficult.
This probably explains the boom in short-handed regattas: simple planning, simple logistics. And what is sailing supposed to be? Simple fun! So it fits.
Anyone who wants to chase regatta silver this season, alone or in pairs, is spoilt for choice. In the Baltic Sea region alone, 26 regattas are on offer, either as pure short-handed events, i.e. single-handed or double-handed, or as traditional regattas with newly added corresponding classifications. And that doesn't even include the regattas in the North Sea, for example, with the German Doublehanded Sailing Championship during the North Sea Week.
Here you will find the 26 regattas in the Baltic Sea region, although we cannot claim to be exhaustive, there is too much movement in this segment.
